Michael Johnson

Michael Johnson was named Assistant Sports Performance Coordinator at Oregon State University in July of 2012.
Johnson is the primary Sports Performance Coach for gymnastics, track & field, women’s rowing, and wrestling where he designs and implements all strength and conditioning related activities. He is also a member of several committees that serve the needs of student athletes including the Student Athlete Leadership Committee and the Holistic Student Athlete Committee. In addition, he serves as the Head Practicum/Internship Development Coordinator where he is in charge of the curriculum and progression of student and volunteer interns. He previously worked for four years as an assistant for Football from 2012-2015 before switching full time to Olympic Sports in 2016.
Johnson arrived at Oregon State after working as a graduate assistant at the University of Hawai’i where he was an assistant with football as well as head performance coach for baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and throwers. Previously he spent three years from 2009-2011 as a volunteer performance coach at Oregon State University.
He is a member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association where he holds the SCCC certification, and a member of USA Weightlifting.
Johnson has a Bachelor and Master Degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Oregon State University. Johnson is an avid and practicing Olympic Weightlifter, but is retired from competition. He played baseball for Wenatchee Valley College from 2004-2006 before transferring to OSU.
He currently lives in Monmouth, Ore., with his wife Ashleigh, their daughter, Peyton, and his dog, Mr. Bear.
