Ernst joined the Beaver staff in August of 2022, coming to Oregon State after spending the 2021-22 campaign at Ohio State, where she served as boatrigger and volunteer assistant coach. In that role she assisted with regatta operations, and helped maintain and repair equipment, amongst numerous other duties. Prior to her time with the Buckeyes, she worked for both Iowa and Wisconsin, serving roles both in coaching an operations.

"Abby's experience as an athlete at two exceptional rowing programs combined with her work experience in a spectrum of roles at three Big Ten institutions that have a history of success on the national stage will provide perspective and new ideas to the program," said head coach Kate Maxim.

As an athlete, Ernst was a two-time bronze medalist at the NCAA Championships (2015; 2V8, 2017;1V4) and a 2017 Henley Royal Regatta qualifier while competing for Washington (2013-2016) and Ohio State (2016-2017). She was a member of the Buckeye’s Leadership Team and a Big Ten sportsmanship honoree in 2017.

Ernst earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from The Ohio State University (2018) and a Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin (2020).
