Talite “JR” Moala returned to Oregon State football in 2024 as the team's director of recruiting.
Moala spent three years with OSU’s program from 2015-17, including quality control coach for defense (2016-17) and as a defensive intern (2015).
His coaching experience also includes serving as a linebackers coach and assistant track and field coach for Hawthorne (Calif.) High School in 2001.
Moala played linebacker at Portland State from 1999-2001 after a two-year LDS mission to Venezuela. He was an All-CIF linebacker at Hawthorne High School in California in 1999. Moala also played fullback at El Camino Junior College in California in 2004.
The Moala name is recognizable to OSU fans as his late older brother, Tevita, played linebacker for the Beavers and scored one of the most famous touchdowns in school history in a 1999 game against California on a fumble recovery. The touchdown ensured the first non-losing regular season in 28 years for OSU. His younger brotherEric Moala, played linebacker from OSU from 2005-07.
Moala also has two other brothers, Fili and Tolu. Fili played for the Indianapolis Colts (2009-14) after a career as a defensive tackle at USC (2005-08). Tolu played linebacker for Oklahoma State (2008-10). His cousin, Haloti Ngata, was a standout NFL and college player with stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Baltimore Ravens.
He is a 2019 graduate of Oregon State with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He and his wife Robin have a son named Joseph.
