Nya Buckner, M.Ed. joined Oregon State University in October 2024 as the Director of Student Athlete Development.
Buckner has been at OSU in multiple different compacities throughout the years. She was a member of the OSU Volleyball team during the 2018-2021 seasons, serving as captain for the ’20 and ’21 seasons, and graduating in Spring 2022 with an Honors Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. During her tenure as a student athlete, she served as the Student Athlete Advisory Committee President and co-founded Dam Change- the Black Student Athlete Response to Systemic Racism. She also completed her undergraduate Honors thesis entitled, NCAA v. Alston & its Implications for the Collegiate Sports Model.
Buckner continued her journey at OSU as a graduate intern in the Student Athlete Development office and graduated with her Master of Education in Adult & Higher Education in June 2024. She completed her capstone entitled, Beaver Transition: Life After Sports, which focused on identifying and providing specialized support for graduating athletes as they transition into life post-athletics.
Buckner has two dogs, Benny and Aussie, and dedicates her free time to spending time with them at the park.
