OSU Wins Seventh Straight Dual Meet

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Oregon State pushed its winning streak to seven straight dual meets Saturday night, beating Cal Poly 35-7 in Pacific-10 wrestling. The 21st-ranked Beavers got pins from Michael Delaney at 133 pounds and Shane Cunanan at 141 pounds and OSU 157-pounder Eric Jorgensen extended his winning streak to 23 straight matches when he received an injury default.
OSU (9-4 overall, 5-1 Pacific-10) won three meets on its two-day swing through California, having beaten Cal-Davis and Stanford on Friday before topping Cal Poly (5-7, 2-3).
"It's nice to win three on the road," OSU head coach Joe Wells said. "It was a lot of fun, and the kids are real excited about it. We scored a lot of bonus points and were real aggressive, and the other guys got really tired ... I was pleased with how the guys performed in scoring those bonus points. We dominated in takedowns by probably a three-to-one margin."
Besides the pins from Cunanan and Delaney and Jorgensen's default, the Beavers also got bonus points on major decisions from 165-pounder Donny Kersey and heavyweight Jason Cooley.
Jorgensen, ranked fourth in the nation, picked up his win when CPU's Josh Blagg was unable to continue just 1:28 into their match. Jorgensen is now 23-1 this season and has scored team bonus points in 16 of his 24 matches.
Delaney earned his second pin of the season when he flattened the Mustangs' Alberto Garza in 3:36. Cunanan then ran his winning streak to six straight matches when he pinned James Gross in 4:23. Cooley, ranked eighth nationally, won his seventh straight match when he beat Eric Rodriguez 15-2.
