Beavers Win No Ka Oi Tournament Championship

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Ann Marie Fallow scored a pair of early goals as Oregon State extended its women's soccer winning streak to three games with a 2-1 win at Hawaii late Sunday night. The victory gave the Beavers (3-1-0 overall, 0-0-0 Pacific-10) the championship of the No Ka Oi Tournament.
OSU midfielder Morgan Crabtree was voted the tourney's Outstanding Player award. Joining Crabtree on the all-tournament team for OSU were defender Mandy Melendez and forward Dante Lipfert.
"It was a good performance - we certainly battled hard in each game," said Oregon State coach Steve Fennah, whose team also beat Northern Arizona 5-2 in tournament play. "We came up with a pair of wins and a tournament title away from home, and that's always a good result."
Oregon State returns home for a pair of non-league games next weekend, meeting Gonzaga on Friday at 2 p.m. and Denver on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium.
Against Hawaii (2-1-1), the Beavers got both their goals from Fallow in the first 20 minutes and then held off the host Wahine. UH picked up its goal in the 32nd minute, then the teams went back-and-forth for a scoreless final 58 minutes.
"It was an awesome game," Fennah said. "Both teams just went at it ... we got off to a two-goal start, they got a goal back, and then it was an end-to-end scrap from there on in."
The Beavers went in front 1-0 in the fifth minute when BreeAnna Jolin perfectly placed a centering pass for Fallow, who knocked it in. OSU made it 2-0 in the 20th minute when Ashley Johnston sent a cross from the left side of the penalty box in to Fallow.
"It was a stunning goal," Fennah said. "Ann Marie ran onto a long free ball and smacked it in on the run."
Hawaii got within 2-1 in the 32nd minute when Veronica Flores dribbled through the OSU defense, then crossed the ball to Jennifer Starsiak, who found the net.
OSU goalkeeper Jerika Duran had three saves for the Beavers, who were outshot 13-10.
