
Oregon State Swimming Falls to UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Oregon State swim team fell to UC Santa Barbara today in the second dual of the 2011-2012 season. The Gauchos topped the Beavers 158-104.
The Oregon State Beavers opened the meet by competing in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Jenni Dole, Rachel O'Brien, Crystal Kibby and Shelby Webber placed fourth in the event with a time of 1:47.85.
Next up was the 1,000-yard freestyle where freshmen Dakota Bloch and Delise Batiza placed third and fourth respectively. Bloch finished in a time of 10:26.79 and Batiza finished with a time of 10:31.70.
Bloch also competed in the 500-yard freestyle placing third with a time of 5:04.22, which was almost three seconds faster than her time against California.
Webber placed third in the 200-yard freestyle finishing with a time of 1:52.45. She also finished third in the 100-yard freestyle notching a time of 52.88. In Webber's last even of the day she placed fifth in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 2:07.98.
The highlight of the meet was O'Brien's first dual win of the season in the 200-yard butterfly. O'Brien's first place was time was 2:01.18, which was almost two seconds faster than her time against California in the first meet of the season.
O'Brien also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.90. Her time today in the 100-yard butterfly was also close to two second faster than her time against California.
Dole finished fourth in both the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke. In the 100-yard backstroke, Dole finished with a time of 58.30. In the 200-yard backstroke, she notched a time of 2:05.94.
The Oregon State swim team will return to action Saturday Oct. 29 against the Seattle University. This will be another home meet for the Beavers which will take place at 12:00 p.m. at the Dixon Recreation Center in Corvallis, Ore.
