Head Coach Craig Robinson
Opening Statement...
"Well, that was one to remember there, even though we didn't win. I couldn't be happier with my team. I thought they fought hard. I thought that tonight they realized that they can play with anybody in the country."
On how the team will benefit from this game...
"I think that what can help the team is, if you look at how they could have easily been out of this game, and they didn't let that happen. You never know if things like that will help you in the future, but I believe they do. I try to get that across to those guys. This isn't the time to point out every single mistake because that wouldn't do us any good. It was really impressive that after the mistakes we made, that we kept fighting and kept fighting. I am really proud of them."
On how the team is feeling after the fourth overtime...
"They were exhausted, but both teams were. Stanford did a terrific job and they made a few more game-winning plays than we did. The effort was there from us. Even down to the last play where we could have easily lost our heads and fouled before trying to get the steal, and what happens, we get the steal. That is just effort. It is just too bad that we couldn't cash in on it. It was very exhausting to watch. This was a players' game. All I was doing was making subs and giving them suggestions on what to do, and these guys just went out and laid it all out there."
On Oregon State's final play...
"Well the play worked. It is just a lot to ask a kid to make a play like that at the end of a game. Even down to the last second, they executed what they should have executed, and the ball just didn't go in. It was a really good look, too."
On Stanford's offensive rebounding...
"If you want to really take a look at some of the things we could have done better, I think that one or two more offensive rebounds at the right time could have been a completely different result. But, same goes for them. This was a four-overtime game, so it wasn't just one thing. You can look at the offensive rebounds, but you could look at our points in the paint and use that as a trade off. There were so many moving parts that I don't want our guys feeling bad about anything other than the fact that we lost the game."
On being 1-3 in conference play...
"My thoughts are that there are a lot of games left to be played. In my opinion right now, without looking at the rest of the teams in depth, I think we can compete with all of them. That gives me some comfort, but we have work to do. You have to execute. This team out here I would go to war with. I will back these guys no matter what they want to do because they work so hard."
On how he will get the team to rebound from the loss...
"We just need to get back to work. You always can fall back on your work and we will get back to work on Monday after they have rested and have a chance to recuperate from this kind of battle. It just takes its toll physically, emotionally and psychologically, so we have to get past that. I say that I am usually over these by the end of 'Saturday Night Live', but this one might go a little later than that."
Sophomore guard Roberto Nelson
On having a lot of missed opportunities...
"It was tough. Every time we felt like we had something going, Stanford did a good job of coming back down and hitting big shots and answer back at us. It was kind of tough; we knew we couldn't take our four-point lead for granted. They played a great game and hit big shots. When it came down to the course they made the big shots."
On the last play of the game and whether or not he was the one that was supposed to get the ball...
"It was tough because we were trying to get the ball to Jared at the end. They keyed on Jared and went to double him. This took him away, so I had to flash up and Joe threw a good pass. I shoot that shot so many times and I just need to make it."
On being 1-3 in the Pac-12...
"It is kind of a reality check for us. I think it is good for us because we are not a 1-3 type of team. I think we are actually the opposite, so we can use this as motivation going into the next game and try to get some wins on the road because that is important. We play great here at home and the fans come out and support us. They do a great job of giving us energy when we are playing in extra overtimes like that. We just have to make sure we are holding each other accountable and we are playing as a team on the road."
On what the team needs to do to bounce back...
"We just have to go back to practice on Monday and use that as our motivation to go work hard. We need to try to make sure that we make all the shots and free throws that we need to make. We just have to go out there and work even harder so when this opportunity presents itself again, we are ready and prepared to get the win instead of a loss."
Junior forward Joe Burton
On fatigue being a factor in the end and the last play...
"It kind of played a factor. We train for that, so I mean we were tired but we know how to play through that. I guess it just got the best of us."
On the final play...
"It is like Roberto said, the play was designed for Jared but he was keyed up and I gave him a pass. I had confidence in his shot. I gave him a pass and it just didn't fall."
On Stanford's length and size down low...
"It was kind of tough but any player has to adjust to it. I think we did a good job with adjusting to the size and the paint didn't get packed up. It just didn't fall our way tonight."
On the last sequence of plays at the end of the game...
"We had opportunities and just didn't capitalize on them. That is probably where the fatigue set in."
