Game Notes
Weather at game time was 48 degrees and cloudy. Wind was from the southwest at 5 mph.
The game aired on ESPN2. Joe Tessitore was the play-by-play announcer while Matt Millen was the analyst. Shannon Spake was the sideline reporter.
Utah won the coin toss and elected to defer. The Utes kicked off from the South end zone.
Oregon State captains were Markus Wheaton, Andrew Seumalo, Tyler Anderson and Jordan Poyer.
Oregon State wore all black and Utah dressed in all white.
Attendance for the game was 45,769, a sellout and the fifth-largest crowd in Reser Stadium history. It was the first back-to-back sellouts for OSU since the last two home games of the 2008 season against California and Oregon.
Oregon State players and coaches supported breast cancer awareness on Saturday. The team wore pink gloves, socks and wristbands.
Oregon State Team Notes
With the win, Oregon State improved to 6-0 on the season. The only other time the Beavers started a season perfect through six games was in 1907.
The victory also moved OSU to 4-0 in Pac-12 play. The Beavers haven't started that well in conference since the first year of the Pac-8 in 1968.
Before Utah's second-quarter touchdown, the Oregon State defense had held its opponents in Reser Stadium without a touchdown for 85 minutes and 31 seconds.
OSU has forced at least two turnovers in every game and has 16 on the season.
The 29-yard rush by John White just before halftime was the longest surrendered by Oregon State's defense all season.
Since 2005, the Beavers' 226 yards are the lowest for the team in a victory. Next lowest occurred Nov. 5, 2005, against Washington (263 yards in an 18-10 win).
The Beavers forced four turnovers for the second time in three weeks. They had five against Washington State (10/6/12).
OSU had two interceptions against Utah to give them 12 for the season. The Beavers had 11 interceptions in the entire 2011 season.
The Beavers have held three opponents under 10 points so far this season for the first time since 2008 (Hawai'i, UCLA, Pittsburgh).
OSU has also held three opponents to under 10 points at home for the first time since 2000 (San Diego State, Stanford, Washington State).
The Beavers last held three consecutive opponents to single-digits at home in 1961 (Idaho, Washington State, BYU). All three of those games were at Parker Stadium. The Beavers played their first two "home" games of 1962 in Portland and surrendered more than 10 points in both, but in their first game of that season in Corvallis they beat Pacific, 40-6.
Oregon State Individual Notes
Markus Wheaton caught seven passes for 90 yards. It's the 29th straight game the senior has hauled in at least one ball.
Michael Doctor's first-quarter interception was the third of his career. He had two in 2011, one each against Arizona (10/8) and Stanford (11/5).
Rudolf Fifita's sack of Tyler Wilson in the second quarter, his second of the season, resulted in his first career forced fumble.
Dylan Wynn now has six career fumble recoveries. The school record is eight by Osia Lewis (1982-85).
Storm Woods rushed for 52 yards and three touchdowns. It was the first multi-touchdown effort of his career. Jovan Stevenson was the last Oregon State running back to reach the end zone more than once when he rushed for three fourth-quarter touchdowns against Washington last season.
Scott Crichton recovered the third fumble of his career as Utah was threatening to tie the game in the third quarter.
Sean Martin's fourth-quarter interception was the first of his career
