CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State swimming team posted five individual wins Saturday afternoon at Utah, but the Utes prevailed, 157-104. Senior Ocean Trail led the way with a pair of victories in freestyle events. Junior Crystal Kibby had three top-three finishes.
Trail's wins came in back-to-back events midway through the meet. She claimed the 50-yard freestyle in 24.63 and won the 100-yarder by a full half second at 53.18. Senior Carrie Kelsey finished third in the 100 with a 53.97 mark.
Kibby's win came in the 200-yard breaststoke. She nearly topped her best time of the season in that event, but her 2:19.95 was good enough for first place and a victory of over 1.5 seconds. Kibby also pulled in a third place in the 100-yard breaststoke in 1:06.12 and a second in the 200-yard IM in 2:08.85.
Trail also contributed to a pair of second-place relay finishes. In the 200-yard medley relay to open the race, she joined Kibby, freshman Amani Amr and junior Erica Brannon in racing to a time of 1:48.64. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Trail, Amr, Kelsey and freshman Sammy Harrison clocked in at 3:35.54. Amr added a second place individual finish in the 100-yard backstroke (58.42).
Harrison had a win of her own Saturday, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.34. Fellow freshman Constance Toulemonde followed in fourth place. Harrison came in second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.74).
Junior Aya Fujimura rounded out the wins with a top showing in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.34).
The Beavers return home for two meets next weekend. They host Washington State on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. for the team's annual Orange Meet. That will also be Senior Night. OSU also hosts Idaho next Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.
