CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State swimming team led wire-to-wire and defeated Idaho, 143-119, Saturday afternoon. The Beavers had eight wins and nine second-place finishes on the day. Freshman Sammy Harrison and junior Crystal Kibby each picked up a pair of victories.
Harrison earned a victory in the 500 free by a full 14 seconds (5:00.75) and added a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Sophomore Dakota Bloch came in second to solidify OSU's finish in each of those races. Harrison added a second in the 200 free in 1:52.92.
Kibby won the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events for the second consecutive day. She finished the 100 in 1:05.7, beating her time against Washington State from last night. Senior Ocean Trail and freshman Amani Amr won the other two individual races for the Beavers. Trail won the 50 free in 24.73 and Amr took the 100-yard backstroke in 57.84.
Senior Carrie Kelsey pulled in a pair of second-place finishes in freestyle races. She followed Trail home in the 50-yard event (24.83).
The Beavers also won both relay events. In the 200-yard medley, Amr, Kibby, Trail and Kelsey came in at 1:47.71, just tenths of seconds behind their pace from Friday's victory. Trail and Kelsey joined Bloch and Harrison for the 400-yard freestyle victory that helped clinch the win in the final event (3:32.78). For good measure, seniors Amanda Rose and Hailey Bambusch joined junior Aya Fujimura and freshman Constance Toulemonde came in third to keep the Vandals at arm's length.
The Beavers now prepare for the Pac-12 Championships beginning Feb. 27 in Federal Way, Wash.
