PERSONAL—Born 9/29/83 in Los Angeles, CA…son of Jeffrey and Saundra Boyd…his father, a former Oregon State football player, is a business owner and his mother is a registered nurse…he has a younger brother, Jonathan, 12, and two younger sisters, Kristen, 15, and Kelli, 9…he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a pre-communication major…his father also played professional football in Canada…he enjoys playing basketball and PlayStation…Jerry Rice is his favorite athlete…selected OSU because, “liked the coaching staff, atmosphere, players and I felt like I was wanted and this is the place for me.”
OSU—(2003—Sophomore)—Jayson is the second fastest player on the OSU roster at 4.39 in the 40...he has the speed and size to be a huge weapon in the Beavers' offensive arsenal...after playing split end as a freshman, Jayson moved to flanker during the spring and he will report to fall camp as the No. 1 flanker...Jayson has been inconsistent thus far in his OSU career...Jayson caught two passes for 55 yards, including a 36-yard grab, in the spring game...in the weight room, Jayson has posted bests of 385 pounds in the back squat, 300 in the bench press, 386.6 in the power clean and 297.6 in the push press...he has a vertical jump of 38 inches, which ties for the best mark on the squad.
(2002—Freshman Redshirt)—Jayson played in 10 games during the season, including two starts...he started the season opener against Eastern Kentucky and also against Arizona State...for the season, Jayson caught 10 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown, that against Eastern Kentucky...he caught two passes for 77 yards vs. Eastern Kentucky, including a career-long 41-yarder; he caught three passes for 43 yards vs. Temple; three passes for 24 yards vs. ASU; one pass for 12 yards vs. California and one pass for 12 yards vs. Arizona...an ankle sprain forced him to miss the UNLV and Fresno State games...he did not play against Oregon and he was held without a reception against USC, UCLA, Washington and Stanford...Jayson also carried the ball three times...he gained 18 yards on a reverse against California and five yards vs. Arizona...he was thrown for a 12-yard loss on a reverse at Stanford...Jayson opened spring drills listed as the No. 3 flanker on the depth chart and he returned for the start of fall camp in the same position on the chart...Jayson had some outstanding plays during the spring and gave indication of his big play capability...his size (6-3, 181) makes him a big target and he also has explosive speed... Jayson caught two passes for 2 yards in the first spring scrimmage and three for 20 yards in the second scrum...he failed to make a catch for the White squad in the Spring Game...during winter conditioning, Jayson posted weightlifting bests of 340 in the back squat, 275 in the bench press, 264 in the power clean and 265 in the push press...he produced a vertical jump best of 34.5 inches.
(2001—Freshman)—Jayson spent the 2001 season as a redshirt wide receiver and performed on the scout team against the OSU defense...he was very impressive during his redshirt season as a receiver and displayed the ability to get deep and also make tough catches over the middle.

NORTH HIGH SCHOOL, Riverside, CA-Selected as a first-team prep All-American by SuperPrep Magazine and ranked as the 19th best prep wide receiver in the nation by SuperPrep…ranked as the 76th best receiver in the nation by Rivals.com…rated as the 21st best player in California by SuperPrep…selected to PrepStar Magazine's All-Western Region squad… “He has got good body control, exceptional hands and a Randy-Moss-type body, if not the speed,” said a college recruiting coordinator…also recruited by Oregon, Washington State and Oklahoma…in his senior year, he caught 56 passes for 961 yards (17.1 average) and 8 touchdowns…he caught 39 passes for 481 yards (12.3 average) and 3 touchdowns as a junior…played for Coach Mark Paredes at John W. North…Jayson was a first-team All-CIF (5A) pick as a senior, plus he was a first-team all-league (Ivy League) and a first-team all-county pick as selected by the Riverside Press-Enterprise…he earned first-team all-league, first team all-county and first team All-CIF honors as a junior, plus honorable mention all-state…he was a three-year starter in football and he earned three letters in track and field as a sprinter…he produced times of 50.0 in the 400 meters and 22.5 in the 200 meters as a junior…Coach Paredes said, “Jayson has tremendous potential. He still has a lot of physical growing to do, but I can see him being a great college player with a chance to play in the professional ranks.”
