OSU Men's Crew Has Near Perfect Day on Water Against Gonzaga

Beavers take three of four from a race opponent for the second time this spring, now have finished first in six of eight total races
MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. – The Oregon State men's crew team finished in first place three times out of a possible four races against Gonzaga, Sunday on Silver Lake in Washington.
The Beavers brought a total of seven boats to Medical Lake, Wash., and a total of five of them finished ahead of Bulldog boats in four separate races.
After the 'Zags slipped by the 'Beavs in the Varsity 8+, head coach Steve Todd's team did not look back, finishing first in the JV8+ (6:22.85), the Freshmen 8+ (6:19.8) and the Varsity/Freshman Open 4+ with a fastest time of 7:07.1 from the A boat of the Varsity 4+.
OSU's Varsity 4+ B and C boats finished second and third respectively in the Open 4+, with times of 7:19.6 and 7:23.1, while Gonzaga's Freshman 4+ boat came in at 8:38.6.
"Today's performance was highlighted by the freshman 8 coming out and really laying down their best effort,” Coach Todd said. "In the Varsity race Gonzaga got out to a great start and we did not handle it well."
Sitting in stroke for the Oregon State first place finishes were Ty Louis (JV8+), Bobby Vernazza in the Freshmen 8+ and Henry Stout, who was aboard the A Varsity 4+ boat.
Sunday's race marked the second time this season, the Beavers were one first place finish away from making it a clean sweep against an opponent, as they took another three of four against the University of Victoria earlier in the month.
OSU will be back on the water in two weeks when it travels to southern California to take part in the San Diego Crew Classic, April 6-7.
