BEAVERTON, Ore. – The Oregon State men's soccer team continued its friendly rivalry with the Portland Timbers organization with an exhibition match Friday night. After a scoreless first half, Portland scored twice in the second half to win, 2-0.
The Beavers had multiple scoring opportunities throughout the match, and head coach Steve Simmons is pleased with the effort despite the result.
“We were unfortunate to not be able to score,” he said. “There are lots of positives to build on. I thought we had more chances here tonight that we did in the game last fall.”
He was referring the Beavers preseason match against the Timbers in August, prior to the start of the regular season. In that game, the Beavers fell, 2-1, with a penalty kick being the difference.
“We really had a good showing outside of the result,” Simmons said. “We responded well after falling behind. It was a great sign of competitive maturity.”
The Beavers complete their spring schedule Sunday against Seattle University at noon.
