NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Oregon State women's basketball team got 45 points off the bench, as the Beavers cruised to a 73-50 victory over Nevada Saturday evening in New Orleans. The victory extends the Beavers' undefeated start to 10 games, with all of those wins coming by double-digits.
Sophomore Gabriella Hanson led the Beavers with 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor. She also filled up the stat sheet, tallying a game-high five assists, five rebounds and two steals. Junior Samantha Siegner also came off the bench to score in double-figures, putting up a career-high 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the floor. The Oregonian also added four rebounds and a steal.
“I thought it was a really good performance today,” said head coach Scott Rueck. “We came out with great energy and offensive focus from the beginning. Nevada is a good team and their length can give teams trouble, but I think our shooters did a great job of separating from them.”
Sophomore Sydney Wiese recorded nine points on three three-pointers, while junior Jamie Weisner also finished with nine points. Junior Ruth Hamblin notched six points and two blocks, leaving her two rejections short of the Oregon State career record. Fellow junior Jen'Von'Ta Hill recorded eight points and five assists.
As a team, the Beavers shot 44.4 percent from the floor, compared to 36.4 percent for the Wolfpack (4-6).
The Beavers got off to a strong start, as they hit five of their first eight shots on their way to an early 12-4 lead. Nevada tied things up with eight unanswered points, but OSU responded with back-to-back three-pointers from Wiese and Hanson to retake the lead. Oregon State parlayed that pair of buckets into an 11-0 run as they jumped out to a 23-12 advantage.
The Beavers would not look back from there, as they led by as many as 20 on their way to a 43-25 halftime lead. Wiese led all scorers with nine points in the opening frame, as she shot 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Oregon State picked up where it left off in the second half, extending the advantage to 25 early in the closing period. The Beavers would stretch the lead to 30 midway through the closing frame, as OSU's defense stymied the Wolfpack offense. Oregon State would lead by as many as 34, on their way to the 23-point victory.
The Beavers will now have an over a week off, as they return to action on Dec. 28 against Tennessee in Knoxville.
