January 25, 2015 | Wrestling
The Oregon State wrestling team stretched its winning streak to 10 consecutive duals over the past two seasons on Sunday with a 35-6 victory at South Dakota State.
Ronnie Bresser (125) and Jack Hathaway (133) gave the Beavers a 12-0 lead by pinning their opponents in the first two bouts and the 20th-ranked Beavers (7-0) cruised from there. OSU won 8 of 10 bouts and earned bonus points in four weight classes in the first match ever between the Beavers and Jackrabbits (8-6).
Cody Crawford (197) pinned and Taylor Meeks (184) earned a technical fall to join Bresser and Hathaway as bonus scorers. Devin Reynolds (141), Abraham Rodriguez (149), Seth Thomas (165) and Joe Latham (174) added wins by decision.
“Ronnie and Jack gave us a great start and we took it from there,” OSU coach Jim Zalesky said. “We won 18 of 20 matches and got bonus points in 12 matches on this road trip, that's a good performance.”
The Beavers hit the road again next weekend for duals at Utah Valley State on Friday and at Oklahoma on Feb. 1.
OSU's next home match is Feb. 7 Senior Night bout against Cal Poly, starting at 7 p.m. Seniors Brian Engdahl, Latham, Meeks, Kurtis Ramsay, Pat Rollins and Nick Schlager will be honored before the match.
