Harrison Leads OSU Swimming With Two Wins at SDSU

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Senior Sammy Harrison won the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events to lead the Oregon State swimming team in a Thursday meet against San Diego State and Vanderbilt at the Aztec Aquaplex.
Harrison's winning time of 10:14.39 in the 1,000-yard freestyle was more than 15 seconds faster than that of the second-place finisher, and was the fifth-fastest time ever recorded at the Aztec Aquaplex. An event she holds the school record in, Harrison's time Thursday was the 10th-fastest in the event in program history, just behind her time of 10:14.34 at this season's dual meet against Arizona State.
The Henderson, Nev. native posted her second win of the meet in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 5:01.25, notching a five-second victory in the event.
As a team, OSU fell to the Aztecs, 121.5-105.5, and to the Commodores, 137-108. The three squads competed in a total of 14 swimming events.
Senior Amani Amr placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58:23, and followed with a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:06.29.
Two of the top three finishers in the 200-yard breaststroke swam for the Orange and Black on Thursday, as junior Czsarina Isleta clocked a time of 2:22.53 to finish in second, while sophomore Corrine Shigeta placed third with a time of 2:23.92.
Junior captain Andrea Young rounded out the Beavers' top finishers on Thursday, claiming a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley behind a time of 2:10.91.
The Oregon State swimming team returns to action on Friday, as the Beavers bookend their trip to California with a dual meet at San Diego. The Beavers' meet against the Toreros and Commodores is set to begin at 2 p.m. PT.
