OSU Swimming Wins Four Events at San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Senior Sammy Harrison won the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events for the second consecutive meet, while senior Amani Amr and junior Czsarina Isleta won a race each to highlight action for the Oregon State swimming team in a Friday meet against San Diego and Vanderbilt.
Harrison clocked a time of 10:16.70 to grab the win in the 1,000 freestyle, winning the event by nearly 18 seconds. The Henderson, Nev. claimed her repeat victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:59.57, winning by a margin of eight seconds and improving upon her time of 5:01.25 on Thursday.
Amr seized her first victory of the season with a win in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall first with a time of 2:07.41. Isleta claimed her win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.99, her second win in the event this season after taking the top spot against Arizona State.
Senior Claire McLaggan took second place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.85, and was just edged by a time of 24.43 by USD's Jackie Taylor. Junior Andrea Young rounded out top freestyle performances with a third-place finish and time of 54.03 in the 100 freestyle.
The Beavers capped off Friday's meet with a pair of third-place finishes in relay events. The foursome of Lauren Hunter, Corrine Shigeta, Megan Lam and McLaggan clocked a time of 3:58.91 in the 400-yard medley relay, while Harrison, Constance Toulemonde, Brooke Meyer and Young finished the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:35.55.
The Oregon State swimming team returns to action with a pair of meets in Los Angeles, Calif. next weekend, opening the weekend with a dual meet at USC at 2 p.m. PT on Friday, Oct. 23. The Beavers close out the road trip with a noon PT meet against UCLA and UC-Santa Barbara on Saturday, Oct. 24.
