Beavers Fall Short In Exciting Game At Gill

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State battled until the very end before falling, 66-64, to Utah on Sunday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.
The Beavers (9-5, 1-1 Pac-12) clawed back from a nine-point first-half deficit and took a 53-47 lead with 11:24 to play. The Utes (10-3, 2-0) answered with an 8-0 run and eventually took a 63-55 advantage with 3:37 on the clock.
Oregon State cut it to one two times, once on a dunk by Alfred Hollins with 1:07 to play, and the other time on a two free throws by Tres Tinkle with 27 seconds left.
Sedrick Barefield split a pair of free throws with 20 seconds that gave Utah a 66-64 lead.
The Beavers missed two 3-pointers and a putback in the final seconds that could have won the game or sent it to overtime.
Tinkle led the Beavers with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Stephen Thompson Jr. finished with 13 points and four assists, and Drew Eubanks was also in double figures with 10 points.
Seth Berger scored all seven of his season-high points in the early part of the game. Hollins (8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals) and Ronnie Stacy (6 points, 2 rebounds) both played well off the bench.
Zach Reichle hit a clutch 3-pointer with 3:26 to play that cut the deficit to 63-58. He finished the game with four points, three rebounds and one assist.
Justin Bibbins led Utah with 18 points and David Collette added 12.
The Beavers next host Oregon at 3 p.m. on Friday at Gill Coliseum in the 349th edition of the Civil War.
