Beavers Race Past Gauchos
March 04, 2017 | Men's Rowing
HENDERSON, Nev. – The Oregon State men's rowing team got its season started with a sweep against UC Santa Barbara, in the first annual Lake Las Vegas Collegiate Regatta.
"This is an awesome event," head coach Gabe Winkler said. "It's a beautiful location with perfect conditions for some high-level racing. Each boat settled into their rhythm early in the race and commanded each piece."
OSU's Varsity 8+ sealed the morning sweep for the Beavers with a time of 5-minutes, 53.8-seconds to beat UCSB finishing more than five seconds ahead of the Gauchos.
"This early season race is going to set a great foundation to gain speed down the line. UCSB looked strong in the challenge, hats off to them for a great race."
Oregon State's Third Varsity 8+ outrowed the UCSB crew (6:22.5) by nearly 20-seconds to take first place, powering through the course in a time of 6:02.7. The Beavers' Junior Varsity 8+ covered the 2,000-meter course with a time of 5:58.2.
