Beavers Move Up At Pac-12 Championship

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon State women's golf team put together a solid second round at the Pac-12 Championship on Tuesday to move up the leaderboard with 18 holes to play.
The Beavers shot a 11-over 299 at the par-72, 6,492-yard Sewailo Golf Club after opening the tourney with a 29-over 317 and moved into eighth place with a 40-over 616.
California is ninth with a 49-over 316-309--625, while Oregon is 10th with a 50-over 318-308--626 and Washington State is 11th with a 54-over 316-314--630. UCLA leads the 11-team field with a 1-under 290-285--575, seven strokes better than second-place Colorado (6-over 296-286--582).
The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com. Oregon State will start on the 10th hole at 8 a.m. and be paired with USC.
Freshman Nicole Schroeder had the round of the day for Oregon State, an even-par 72, which included three birdies and three bogeys. The consistent play moved her 11 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 16th place with a 6-over 78-72--150. Schroeder's best career finish was a tie for 22nd place at the Rose City Collegiate this past fall.
Senior Elyse Smidinger also played better in the second round, posting a 3-over 75 with three birdies, three bogeys and a double, to jump into a tie for 30th place with an 11-over 80-75--155. She has three top-20 finishes this season in her first competitive year at Oregon State.
Sophomore Olivia Benzin was 5 over through her first nine holes but played even golf coming in to finish with a 5-over 77. She's also tied for 30th place with an 11-over 78-77--155.
Junior Susie Cavanagh knocked eight strokes off her first round on Tuesday and is tied for 43rd overall with a 14-over 83-75--158. Junior Hannah Swanson is tied for 52nd place with a 22-over 81-85--166.
