Oregon State Swimming splits between Winter Nationals and Husky Invite
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State Swim heads in separate directions week with Felicia Anderson, Arianna Letrari, and Cali Rowland traveling to USA Winter Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina. The rest of the Beavers will head to North for The Husky Invite in Federal Way, Washington.
"All the work that we have done and all the meets we have swam in to this point have been preparing the team for a competition that is trials and finals like this," Buffin said. "It's a great opportunity for everybody to put all of their work on display and decide how we are going to show up as a program, and gain more experience going into the second part of our season."
The Beavers are coming off of a pair of wins over Seattle University and Southwest Oregon Community College in a Tri-Meet where the Beavers beat 15 career bests.
"It's exciting to get a win and swim to our potential with so many new career bests, no doubt about that," Buffin said. "We talked about that as soon as it was over, but we had to refocus looking onto these events. If we continue down that road we are only going to keep putting ourselves in a better position to compete in this conference."
The group in Federal Way will be competing in one of the largest non-championship meets in the country. Last season the Beavers finished in fourth place out of all collegiate teams at the event.
At Winter Nationals Anderson, Letrari, and Rowland will compete on both long course and short course. This will be Rowland's first appearance at the collegiate level USA Nationals after competing in Junior Nationals last year.
"I'm expecting Felicia and Arianna to be the leaders of that smaller group going to nationals," Buffin said. "Both of them have experience in this kind of setting at this level, and they will be able to help Cali work through her first time there."
Winter Nationals run November 28th through December 1st at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
"For the smaller group going to (Winter) Nationals, this is kind of a two part meet for us," Buffin said. "The first part is everyone having their first opportunity to swim long course and getting exposure on the national scene this year. The second part is the short course time trial, to see what kind of times we can post on the short course just getting to let loose after the long course is done."
The Husky Invite will be hosted at the Weyhauser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington from November 29th to December 2nd
