OSU splits result on New Year's Eve
San Diego, Calif. – The Beavers wrapped up 2018 with split results capturing a 182-76 dual win over the University of Incarnated Word and a 134-120 loss to San Diego State University in San Diego on Monday morning.
The Beavers put up three first-place finishes before the first break with freshman Kristina Schneider (200 free), junior Felicia Anderson (100 back) and junior Arianna Letrari (200 fly) each capturing a title. Freshman Lindsay Swail finished shortly behind Anderson in the 100 back to take second in the race.
"I'm happy to see the team racing this early moving into our Pac-12 schedule in January and February," said head coach Jennifer Buffin. "It is challenging coming off a break for Christmas, but the team kept their focus. We competed and stayed focused throughout the meet."
Anderson completed her sweep of individual races with a win in the 200 back.
Junior Paige Maynard competed in a tight race placing second in the 100 fly. Freshman Lauren Yon also had a solid day of performances placing third in the 200 breast.
"San Diego State has been a strong opponent for us," continued Buffin. "We continue to improve making this a more competitive meet for both programs.
As we move into the new year, our focus continues to be on our team and individual progress. Each person has their focus, but we will continue to strive to be competitive every time with race, to learn from our preparation and results while moving forward to what is next for us, which includes a strong Pac-12 conference schedule over the next month."
The team will ring in the 2019 New Year with one final workout of 2018 later this afternoon before continuing to train over the next week in San Diego. Oregon State is in action next in Los Angeles on January 18 for a tri-meet against USC and Minnesota. OSU will also compete at UCLA on January 19.
