Beavers Fall to Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif. – The Oregon State wrestling team lost a nonconference dual on Thursday evening to Fresno State inside of Save Mart Center.
The Beavers (3-6, 1-1 Pac-12) fell to the Bulldogs (7-6, 3-3 Big 12) by a final score of 27-13.
Starting the night at 165 pounds, Aaron Olmos made the start after sitting out the last dual against Clackamas. Olmos trailed 2-1 early in the first period, but couldn't get any offense going losing by major decision, 11-3.
It was the Beavers who struck first at 174 pounds with Colt Doyle finishing a lengthy scramble early in the first period. Doyle took the 2-0 lead into the second period managing another takedown and escape for a 5-0 lead after two periods. An illegal locked hands plus a late takedown secured the major decision for Doyle, 9-1.
The Bulldogs picked up another win at 184 pounds with No. 25 Jackson Hemauer getting the technical fall over Bob Coleman, 15-0.
The Beavers suffered another loss at 197 pounds by decision, 12-6. Jamarcus Grant trailed 11-4 with 30 seconds left in the match and secured a takedown not giving up bonus points to the opposition.
Amar Dhesi got things back on track for Oregon State at heavyweight. Ranked No. 4 in the country, Dhesi secured two first-period takedowns for a 4-1 lead after the first. An escape from No. 20 AJ Nevills (Fresno State) put the score at 4-2 in favor of Dhesi after two periods. Dhesi cemented the 10-4 decision over Nevills with an escape and two takedowns in the final period of regulation.
Oregon State trailed Fresno State at the halfway intermission, 12-7.
Following the halfway break, the dual resumed at 125 pounds featuring No. 3 Ronnie Bresser against Robert Garcia IV (Fresno State). Bresser put the Beavers on top in the team score thanks to a pin 14 seconds into the bout.
Fresno State regained the team lead after the match at 133 pounds between Kegan Calkins and Gary Joint (Fresno State). Calkins fell behind early, but made a match of it being down 4-3 late in the first period. Joint was too much to overcome as Calkins lost by decision, 10-6.
It was another win for the opposition at 141 and 149 pounds as Fresno State secured the team win. Chris Deloza (Fresno State) earned a 10-7 decision over Grant Willits at 141 pounds, before No. 12 Khristian Olivas (Fresno State) picked up an 8-3 decision over Josh Reyes.
In the final bout of the evening, Hunter Willits maintained a 2-1 lead in the second period, before injury defaulting out of the match.
Oregon State lost by a final score of 27-13.
