
Beavers Head to Fourth-Straight Sweet 16

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's basketball team booked its fourth-straight trip to the Sweet 16 with a hard-fought 76-70 win over Gonzaga Monday evening at Gill Coliseum.

"An opportunity to battle on to the Sweet 16 for a fourth-straight year is incredible," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "This team just continued to fight. They are absolute warriors. I am so happy for our team – they deserved the opportunity to win today and to play in front of another incredible crowd. It was another great basketball game, and I'm really happy our team found a way to win."

With the win, the Beavers advance to face Louisville on Friday in Albany, N.Y.

Junior Mikayla Pivec notched her fourth-straight double-double, going for 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Redshirt-sophomore Destiny Slocum finished with 12 points, 10 of which came in the second half.

Sophomore Taya Corosdale came up with another big effort, tallying 12 points and seven rebounds. Fellow sophomore Aleah Goodman put up 12 points and three assists, while junior Maddie Washington scored 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting.

As a team, Oregon State shot 40.7 percent from the floor and 82.1 percent from the free throw line.

Neither team led by more than six points until the closing minutes of the contest.

The teams traded baskets early on, as they reached the mid-way point for the first quarter level at eight. Neither team led by more than three points in the opening period, as Gonzaga ended the first up 15-14.

The second quarter featured more of the same. The Bulldogs took a five-point lead, before the Beavers battled back to tie the game. Gonzaga headed to the locker room ahead 34-32.

Corosdale led the Beavers with nine first-half points, while Pivec headed to the break with eight points and seven rebounds.

Slocum heated up to start the second half, scoring the first nine Beavers points of the third frame. Oregon State tied the game at 47 late in quarter, before using a 7-0 run to end the third up 50-49.

The two sides trade punches through most of the fourth, before Oregon State created some late separation to go in front by seven. The Beavers hit their free throws from there to take the win by six.
