Beavers Fall to Gauchos in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Oregon State men's soccer team dropped its first road match of the season, falling 3-1 to UC Santa Barbara.
David Perez netted his first Beaver goal, a first-half tally off an assist from Ellis Spikner. As a team, OSU tallied eight shots and seven corner kicks in the match.
Oregon State created a pair of chances within the first two minutes of action, including a cross that narrowly missed the foot of Mouhameth Thiam from point-blank range. The Beavers dominated the run of the play in the first 10 minutes, but the Gauchos struck first in the eighth minute, scoring on a counter-attack.
Jacques Fokam found himself in front of the UCSB goalkeeper in the 15th minute, but his attempt was parried out of play. The Gauchos netted a second goal in the 23rd minute.
Oregon State pulled one back in the 29th minute, as Perez knocked home a cross from Spikner. The Gauchos led 2-1 as the teams headed to the intermission.
The Beavers opened the second half on the front-foot, putting pressure on the UCSB defense within the first 10 minutes of the period.
UC Santa Barbara tacked on a third marker in the 66th minute.
Perez attempted to score his second of the night in the 70th, but his attempt from 16 yards out was blocked. Javier Armas took aim in the 74th minute, forcing a save from the Gaucho keeper.
Oregon State pressed forward in the closing stages, but was unable to get on the board again, as the Gauchos took the victory.
The Beavers will return home Thursday to face Seattle U.
