STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon State women's soccer team battled No. 5 Stanford Thursday evening, with the Cardinal coming away with a 3-1 victory in Stanford, Calif.

McKenna Martinez scored her fifth goal of the season, and the 27^th of her Oregon State career as she moved into sole possession of fifth place on the Beavers' career goals list. Gwenyth Jacobs was credited with her second assist of the 2023 campaign.

The Beaver back line held firm early on, and Aidan Brown took Oregon State's first shot of the game in the seventh minute, firing an effort from distance that was blocked. Stanford took the lead two minutes later.

Martinez had a shot blocked in the 15^th minute, and had another cleared off the line on the ensuing corner kick. The Cardinal proceeded to double the score in the 19^th minute.

Martinez pulled one back in the 35^th minute, converting on a scramble inside the Cardinal penalty area. The Beavers headed to the intermission trailing by a goal.

The Beaver back line held firm in the second half, as Oregon State looked for an opportunity to equalize. Helena Brown took aim from distance in the 72^nd, but the effort sailed over the crossbar.

Jacobs nearly pulled the Oregon State back within a goal in the closing minute of the contest, but her shot to the bottom right corner was saved as Stanford claimed the two-goal victory.

The Beavers will head across the Bay on Sunday for a matchup with California.
