
Beavers Take Down Aztecs

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Oregon State men's soccer team earned a Pac-12 road victory 1-0 over San Diego State Thursday evening in San Diego.
Logan Farrington netted the game's only goal, hammering home a free kick in the 59th minute. The tally marked Farrington's 11th goal of the season, as he moved into a tie with Timmy Mueller and Alan Gordon for sixth on Oregon State's single-season goals list.
As a team, the Beavers move to 7-5-3 on the year and 4-1-3 in Pac-12 play with two games remaining in the regular season.
Oregon State out-shot San Diego State 10-6 in the contest, and held the Aztecs without a shot on target.
The Beavers started the matchup on the front-foot, creating a couple early chances and a corner kick within the first 10 minutes of the contest. Pere Belmonte took aim in the 27th minute, but his effort was off target.
Neither side was able to generate a clear-cut attempt on goal in the first 45 minutes, as the teams headed to the intermission scoreless.
The Beavers came out attacking after the break, as both Fabian Straudi and Turner Humphrey had efforts on goal within the first three minutes of the second half. Farrington put the Beavers in front in the 59th with a free kick that found the bottom corner.
Javier Armas attempted to double the advantage with a back-post header in the 79th, but the effort was smothered by the Aztec goalkeeper. Enzo Newman and Farrington both forced saves in the 86th minute.
The Oregon State back line held firm from there to secure the victory. Luis Castillo recorded his third clean sheet of the season.
The Beavers will head north on Sunday for a matchup at UCLA.
