CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's soccer team claimed 3-1 win over Bowling Green Wednesday evening at Paul Lorenz Field, as the team celebrated Senior Night in its final home game of the regular season.
Alejandro Silva marked his senior night by scoring the Beavers' first goal of the contest. Freshman Sergi Solans tallied a goal and an assist, as he moved into sole possession of sixth on Oregon State's single-season goals list with 13 on the year.
Arnau Farnos rounded out the scoring for Oregon State, netting his ninth of the campaign, while also adding an assist on the night. Fabian Straudi recorded an assist in the contest, his 12th of the season as he moves within one of tying Oregon State's season record.
With the win, Oregon State moves to 10-3-3 on the year, while Bowling Green falls to 10-5-2.
Solans nearly opened the scoring early on, as he forced a pair of saves within the first three minutes of the contest. Bowling Green drew first blood in the 14th minute to take the early advantage.
Solans had another scoring chance mid-way through the opening frame, but his breakaway attempt was just over the crossbar.
Oregon State bounced back emphatically in the latter phases of the first half. Silva hammered one home from the right side of the box in the 28th minute. Then less than two minutes later, Solans slid one past the keeper to put the Beavers in front.
OSU headed to the intermission leading 2-1.
Oregon State continued to press for a third in the beginning of the second half, and the offensive pressure paid off in the 65th minute, when Solans stood a ball up to the far post and Farnos headed it home to give the Beavers a two-goal lead.
The Beavers were able to close out the match from there to claim the victory. As a team, Oregon State out-shot Bowling Green 20-8 overall and 10-2 in the second half.
The Beavers honored their senior class in a postgame ceremony, as Pere Belmonte, Luke Bryant, Fran Cortijo, Gandhi Cruz, Jacob Huth, Nicklas Lund, Mateo Palomino, Silva, Straudi and Dante Williams were recognized.
Oregon State will close out the regular season on Nov. 16 when it heads to Merlo Field for a rivalry matchup with Portland.
