Gardiner Posts Another Career-High, But Beavs Fall to #10 USC Without Beers
February 18, 2024 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore –  Eleventh-ranked Oregon State left it all on the floor in a 58-50 loss to no. 10 USC.
Â
Timea Gardiner got her first start of the season and provided yet another career-high in scoring with 22 points. It was the sophomore's third in five games and sixth straight double-figure scoring output. She also pulled down nine rebounds.
Â
Talia von Oelhoffen found ways to contribute without her shot falling. She dished 10 assists, grabbed seven rebounds, blocked three shots and added two steals in a stellar defensive effort.
Â
The Beavs were without reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week Raegan Beers but battled valiantly in a physical game. USC outrebounded Oregon State 51-36 in Beers' absence.
Â
OSU stayed in the game with its defense, holding JuJu Watkins to 18 points on 6-of-32 shooting, her second-lowest scoring total and worst field-goal percentage of the season. As a team, the Beavs held USC to 31 percent shooting from the floor and 26.7 percent from three.
Â
Oregon State trailed by double-digits multiple times before fighting back into the game. Adlee Blacklock provided an early spark with seven first-half points while Gardiner scored 22 of the Beavers' 30 second-half points to get the Beavs back within five on multiple occasions.
Â
The game was Oregon State's Dam Cancer game with a silent auction and postgame haircuts to benefit cancer research and patients.
Â
The Beavers head to Washington State and Washington next week before returning for a showdown with Stanford. Fans can get tickets at beavertickets.com.
