Gomez, Nakao Lead Beavers On Day Two At NCAA Regionals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Chayse Gomez carded a 2-under 70 and Raya Nakao shot a 1-under 71 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the second round of the NCAA Division I Regionals on Tuesday.
The Beavers sit in seventh place with a 2-over 285-293—578 at the par-72, 6,297-yard Bermuda Run Country Club and will have to make a move in Wednesday's final round to advance to the NCAA National Championships.
The top five teams in the 12-team field, and the low individual not on an advancing team, will advance to compete in the National Championships scheduled for May 17-22 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Wake Forest (18-under 558), Ole Miss (12-under 564), Texas (12-under 564), Mississippi State (5-under 571), Tennessee (4-under 572) and North Texas (1-under 575) hold the top six spots with 18 holes to play.
The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 5:00 a.m. PT (8:00 a.m. ET) on Wednesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com. Oregon State will start on the first hole at 5:55 a.m. PT and be paired with UCF and South Florida.
Gomez, a fifth-year senior from Yorba Linda, Calif., had a team-best five birdies in the second round, which helped her finish in red figures for the second-straight day. She is tied for 11th place on the individual leaderboard with a 3-under 71-70—141.
Nakao, a true freshman from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, has also posted two under-par scores at regionals and leads Oregon State individually with a 4-under 69-71—140 good enough for a tie for seventh place. She has 30 pars through the first two rounds, tied for the most in the field.
Kyra Ly, a sophomore from Portland, had two birdies in the second round, after rolling in five on the opening day and is tied for 30th place with a 2-over 69-77—146.
True freshman Rebecca Kim had an excellent bounce back round on Tuesday with a 3-over 75 that included two birdies, on the par-4 fifth and par-4 seventh holes. She opened the tournament with an 11-over 83 that included two unfortunate triple bogeys.
Junior Madde Sund dropped in birdies on the par-4 first and par-3 third holes that helped her finish with a 5-over 77 after shooting a 4-over 76 in the first round.
