Wiley Takes First at Linfield Harrier
August 31, 2024 | Women's Cross Country
McMinnville, Ore. – The Oregon State cross country team got its 2024 season off to a strong start Saturday morning, as redshirt-freshman Paige Wiley claimed first place at the Linfield Harrier Classic.
Wiley checked in with a time of 13:53.90 in the 4K race, beating the second-place finisher by less than a second. Redshirt-junior Ellie Hull took seventh, as the Beavers placed second as a team, just behind event winner Portland.
"This was a really good opener for us," said Oregon State head coach Louie Quintana. "Paige was super tough and showed that she is going to have a great future as a Beav. We ran a competitive team race behind her to almost take down a good UP team. We are looking forward to taking the next step in our season and training."
Junior Payton Smith and redshirt-sophomore Eliza Eckman finished back-to-back, taking 11th and 12th place, respectively. Jenna O'Beirne placed 15th, while Gracie Buzzell took 20th to round out the group of six Beavers in the top-20.
