October 22, 2025 | Men's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. — Oregon State Director of Rowing Michael Eichler announced today the appointment of Galen Bernick as Associate Coach for the Beavers' men's rowing program.
Bernick brings extensive coaching experience and an elite competitive pedigree to Corvallis, including multiple years coaching high-level programs on the East Coast and a background as a two-time U.S. National Team athlete.
"I am happy to welcome Galen to Oregon State. He brings a unique combination of an elite athletic background, strong coaching and rowing experiences, and a passion for the holistic development of student-athletes which align well with our core values," Eichler said. "He will make an immediate impact on our student-athletes and I am eager to see the positive impacts on this program under his leadership."
Most recently, Bernick coached at RowHouse Edgewater and Mile High Rowing in Denver, Colo. Before that, he spent five years with Community Rowing Inc. in Boston, Mass., where he worked his way up from assistant coach to boatman and eventually head boys coach, a position he held for two years. He also coached for five years at Annapolis Juniors Rowing, serving as head sculling coach during the summer of 2024.
"I'm excited to join the Oregon State men's rowing program and contribute to the success of our athletes. There is a strong history of the program as well as current and future potential," Bernick said. "Along with Coach Eichler and the rest of our staff, I'm committed to helping our athletes perform at the highest level. I'm excited to see how this team's grit and toughness can lead to results both on and off the water."
Bernick's coaching resume also includes positions with Harvard University's lightweight men's rowing program from 2019-21 and Boston College men's rowing from 2018-19 and 2021-22.
As a competitor, Bernick represented the United States on the national team twice and spent four years rowing at Mercyhurst University, where he graduated with a degree in philosophy in 2018. A native of Tempe, Ariz., Bernick holds his USCCE certification.
