Beavers Drop Matchup With Ducks

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon State men's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season on Monday, as the Beavers fell to Oregon 87-75 in Eugene.
Isaiah Sy led the Beavers with 14 points, knocking down all seven of his free throws. Josiah Lake II had 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the floor, despite playing limited minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. Yaak Yaak rounded out a trio of Oregon State players in double figures with 10 points one 3-for-4 shooting, before fouling out.
Dez White and Matija Samar recorded nine points apiece. Olavi Suutela finished with eight points. As a team, Oregon State amassed 40 bench points in the contest.
The Beavers were called for 27 fouls in the game, compared to 17 fouls whistled on the Ducks.
The Oregon State-Oregon Rivalry Series is presented by Safeway-Albertsons, PacificSource Health Plans, Your Local Toyota Dealers and First Interstate Bank.
The Ducks scored the first 11 points of the game to jump out to an early lead, as Oregon State was called for seven fouls within the first four minutes of action. The Beavers battled back to get within 14-7 at the game's first media break. Oregon State proceeded to cut the deficit to two on a Yaak 3-pointer with 12 minutes left in the first half.
The Beavers got within one mid-way through the first half and trailed 28-26 with 7:45 left in the half. Malcolm Christie hit a 3-pointer to give Oregon State its first lead minutes later.
Oregon headed to the break up 41-34.
The Ducks extended the advantage to 12 early in the second half, but again the Beavers battled back, getting back within three with 11 minutes remaining. Oregon State continued to battle, but could not regain the lead, Oregon took the win by 12.
The Beavers will head to the Virgin Islands later this week to take part in the Paradise Jam. Oregon State will start the event on Friday when it takes on Evansville at 5 p.m. PT.
