April 19, 2025 | Women's Golf
FAIRFIELD, Calif. – The Oregon State women's golf team outlasted the field to win the West Coast Conference Championship, and Raya Nakao claimed the individual title in a playoff on Saturday.
The Beavers concluded the three-day, 54-hole championship with a 5-over 286-290-293—869 at the par-72, 6,180-yard Green Valley Country Club to win their first conference title in program history. The previous best finish was a tie for second at the 2022 Pac-12 Championship.
Pepperdine finished second at the WCC Championship with a 7-over 871.
With the conference title, Oregon State earned an automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships and will find out Wednesday, April 23 where it will play. The official announcement will be at 10:00 a.m. PT on Golf Channel and streamed live on the Golf Channel website.
Nakao, a sophomore from Kaneohe, Hawai'i, shot a 4-under 66-74-72—212 and was tied with Eva Pett of San Francisco (71-71-70) for first place after 54 holes. The two went to a playoff that Nakao won on the second hole.
They both led the field with 14 birdies apiece.
It was the eighth Top 10 finish in Nakao's two-year Oregon State career with the previous best a tie for fourth place at the Nanea Invitational this past fall. Her 6-under 66 in the first round was a career best and equaled the course record at the Green Valley Country Club.
Kyra Ly notched her fifth Top 10 finish of the season, and eighth in her collegiate career, with a tie for fourth place after posting a 2-over 73-72-73—218. In her last five tournaments, the junior from Portland has an individual title (Causeway Invitational), a tie for third (Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational), a tie for fourth (WCC Championship), a tie for eighth (Silverado Showdown) and a tie for 20th (Meadow Club Invitational).
Madde Sund, a senior from Skollersta, Sweden, finished in a tie for 13th place with a 6-over 71-75-76—222. Her previous best finish at a conference championship was a tie for 23rd at the Pac-12's in 2022. Sund had seven birdies over the three rounds of the WCC Championship.
Rebecca Kim, a sophomore from South Surrey, B.C., had her best finish as a collegian, a tie for 15th place with a 7-over 81-70-72—223. Her previous best finish was a tie for 20th at the Causeway Invitational earlier this spring. Kim had nine birdies in the tournament with all of them coming in the second and third rounds.
True freshman Clara Alevag, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, finished in a tie for 21st place with a 12-over 76-74-78—228. It was her best finish this season, bettering the tie for 38th place she had at the Causeway Invitational. Alevag equaled Sund with seven birdies in the WCC Championship.
