Johnson Leads Beavers On Final Day At WCC Championship

FAIRFIELD, Calif. – Rylan Johnson shot an 8-under 64 to lead the Oregon State men's golf team at the West Coast Conference Championship on Saturday as the Beavers made a third-round push.
Oregon State shot a team score of 15-under 273, coming in sixth place and just four shots out of fourth place. The top four teams over the first two days of action advance to match play semifinals on Sunday.
"The guys were awesome today," said Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn. "The opportunity to play for a chance to get in the top four and have a chance in match play is something new and really proud of how they showed up today when it might have looked like we were out of if yesterday."
Johnson finished with a pair of eagles on Saturday, doing shot on the par-5, 531-yard third hole and par-5, 460-yard 10th hole. He also posted six birdies on the day to lead the Beavers.
The junior completed the event with a 12-under 204, finishing under par in all three rounds. He posted back-to-back 2-under 70s on Friday.
Johnson finished the event in a tie for third, three shots out of the individual lead.
Stanley Lin ended his play with a career-best 6-under 66, his 12th round under par this year. He birdied eight holes in the third round, and ended the event with a 3-under 213, tying for 23rd.
Brandon Eyre was one shot better than Lin over the 54 holes, wrapping up the championship with a 1-over 212. He shot a 4-under 212 overall after opening with back-to-back rounds under par on Friday.
Eyre finished tied for 22nd.
Collin Hodgkinson also had his best round at the Green Valley Country Club, posting a 1-under 71. The junior tallied four birdies to finish with a 1-over 217, finishing in a tie for 33rd.
Bradley Smolinski ended the trip with a 3-over 219 after shooting at par on Saturday. He tied for 39th and collected three birdies in the third round.
Johnson ended the championship with 16 birdies, around the event's leaders. Eyre and Lin both had 13, Smolinski tallied 11 and Hodgkinson picked up 10.
