Men’s Rowing Rounds Out Regular Season on East Coast
May 01, 2025 | Men's Rowing
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Oregon State men's rowing is competing in its final regular season regatta this weekend, traveling coast-to-cost to compete against Penn, Cornell and Holy Cross in Philadelphia, Pa., on both Friday and Saturday.
Racing will start on Friday at approximately 11 a.m. Pacific when the 3V8 will compete against the Penn third, fourth and fifth eight. 20 minutes later, the 2V8s go head-to-head with Penn's 2V8, before both schools' 1V8s round out the day's racing with another head-to-head matchup.
Saturday morning, the action begins at 7:50 a.m. Pacific with a 3V8+ matchup against Holy Cross' 3V and 4V, which will be followed by two more head-to-head races against the 2V and 1V. After a break, OSU will rattle off three-consecutive races against Cornell starting at 10:20 a.m., as the third, second and first eight will compete again.
The Beavs enter Saturday's racing with momentum after a strong showing against Gonzaga, UC San Diego and Santa Clara last weekend, when the team swept all four races and had four of the five boats in action win, with the lone exception coming when Oregon State's 4V8+ finished in second place behind the 3V8+. Led by the third eight's 6:12.9 and the fourth eight's 6:19.0, the next closest boat, Gonzaga, completed the course in 6:32.8, meaning both boats beat the Zags by over 10 seconds.
A close race in the 1V8+ resulted in another win, with the boat posting OSU's fastest time of the day (5:47.07) to set the stage for the 2V8, which was victorious after another sub-six minute time; racing concluded with the 5V8's win.
In the updated IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll, released Wednesday morning, the Beaver varsity eight came in at No. 21 for the third-consecutive week, sitting ahead of Drexel and behind the US Naval Academy.
Oregon State men's rowing is off next weekend but returns to action on May 17 at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship.
