Oregon State Men’s Rowing Wraps up IRA National Championship at No. 21
June 01, 2025 | Men's Rowing
CAMDEN, N.J. – Oregon State men's rowing competed at the IRA National Championship Regatta over the weekend, placing 21st.
"All three boats raced the way Oregon State is known for – they were tough, gritty, sometimes imperfect but still gutsy and relentless. They should be proud of where they've come and for a great season," Head Coach Gabe Winkler said. "This is a great team and you always wish for one more shot, one more day to hang out with the people you see every day, putting in the hours of work, some of them for the past four years.
"The IRA National Championship is always an emotional roller coaster. You love seeing the team race well, but you know it's the last time all of this group, as a whole unit, will be together," Winkler added. "We graduate 11 seniors next weekend and the parents and friends who dropped them off four years ago will see their children transformed into adults and the best people Oregon State has to offer.
Racing began on Friday with heat racing; OSU's first and second eight both finished in fifth place to earn spots in the CD semifinals on Saturday before a fourth place finish in the 3V8+.
In the CD semis, the varsity eight posted a sub-six minute time but was in fifth place at the finish line, while the 2V8+ also finished in fifth.
Oregon State nearly won in the 2V8+ final four, finishing less than two seconds behind Georgetown to place second in the race, ahead of La Salle, Holy Cross and Gonzaga. 20 minutes later, in the 3V8+ final, OSU placed fourth out of a seven team field, completing the course in 5:56.790.
Finally, in the Varsity Eight Final Four, OSU posted the team's fastest time of the weekend, rowing all 2,000 meters in 5:42.250, just behind Holy Cross (5:38.840) and Georgetown (5:37.800), ahead of MIT (5:43.190), UC San Diego (5:46.640) and Gonzaga (5:48.950).
With the IRA National Championship Regatta complete, Oregon State men's rowing has officially concluded its 2025 spring championship season.
