CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State's AJ Winsor has been named to the midseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award, the Augusta Sports Council announced on Thursday. The honor is given annually to the nation's top collegiate punter.
Â
Winsor has needed to punt just 20 times this season, and he's averaging 42.9 yards per. Winsor has trapped opponents inside their 20 six times, while producing 10 fair catches. He has recorded at least one 40-yard punt in seven of the Beavers' eight games, only failing to do so Oct. 3 at Colorado State when he did not attempt a punt. Winsor also has four punts of 50 or more yards on the year.
Â
The Mukilteo, Wash., native has punted 86 times over three seasons for the Beavers, and he's averaging 44.4 yards per, which would rank third for a career. Twenty-six of his 86 punts have gone for 50 or more yards, while 21 have been downed inside the 20. Opponents have been forced to fair catch his punts 23 times.
Â
Sixty-three punters are on the watch list. Semifinalists will be announced Nov. 13, with three finalists selected No. 24. The winner will be announced on Dec. 11.
