Oregon State Notables
• Oregon State and Houston are set to square off for the first time. The teams were supposed to meet last season in Round Rock but the game was canceled due to sub-freezing temperatures.
• Dax Whitney, who is Friday's probable starter, is the reigning Golden Spikes/D1Baseball National Player of the Week. He was also named the Pitcher of the Week by the College Baseball Foundation and Perfect Game.
• Whitney tied the Oregon State single-game record with 17 strikeouts against Baylor last Friday. Whitney faced 25 batters in the Beavers' 3-1 win over the Bears, allowing two hits, a walk and a hit by pitch. He retired the last 11 batters he faced, including nine by strikeout.
• Whitney is the nation's leader in strikeouts with 23 over his first 12 innings of work this season. The righty has allowed seven hits with four walks and a run in those 12 innings.
• The Oregon State pitching staff has 100 strikeouts through the first seven games of the season. The staff has also issued 27 walks in 64 innings. By comparison, the 2025 Beavers had 72 strikeouts and 41 walks issued in 61 innings over the first seven games.
• OSU ranks fourth nationally averaging 14.1 strikeouts per nine innings. The Beavers trail only Wake Forest (15.6), Georgia (15.2) and LSU (14.2).
• Easton Talt collected his second multi-hit game of the season Sunday against Purdue. He has hit safely in six of the Beavers' first seven games.
• Defensively, OSU has committed just five errors for a .980 fielding percentage. Three errors have come on pickoff attempts, another on a catcher's interference and one on an errant throw to first on a sacrifice bunt.
• The Beavers are playing in Frisco for the first time.
• This weekend's tournament marks three of nine games OSU will play in Texas this season. Oregon State played three in Round Rock last week and will visit Lamar in Beaumont April 2-4.
