Beavers Take Down Toreros in Overtime

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's basketball team claimed a wild 92-82 victory over San Diego Wednesday evening at Gill Coliseum.
A back-and-forth game saw the Beavers take an eight-point lead within the final minute of regulation, before a late Torero surge forced the extra period.
Isaiah Sy recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Jorge Diaz Graham had 17 points on 5-for-8 shooting in his final game at Gill Coliseum. Johan Munch ended the night with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Josiah Lake II had 15 points and nine assists.
Olavi Suutela rounded out five Beavers in double-figures, ending his day with 14 points on 4-for-7 shooting. Overall, Oregon State shot 50.8 percent from the floor and out-scored San Diego 32-14 in the paint. The Beavers held a 40-30 advantage on the glass.
With the win, the Beavers move to 16-14 on the season and 9-8 in WCC play. Oregon State ended the evening in fourth-place in the conference.
The teams traded punches in the early part of the game, with the Torero's taking an 11-9 lead into the game's first media break. A fast-paced first half saw the Beavers leading 23-22 with 7:33 to go before the intermission.
Oregon State headed to the break leading 35-32. Munch recorded 11 first half points, while Suutela had 10.
Sy hit back-to-back 3-pointers to open the second half, putting the Beavers up by nine. Oregon State extended the lead to double-figures, but an 8-0 USD run put the Toreros back within two.
Consecutive 3-point plays from Sy and Lake helped the Oregon State go back in front by seven. The Beavers maintained the advantage from there, and led by eight with 50 seconds to go, but a pair of quick 3-pointers go the Torero's back within a basket with 28.7 left on the clock. San Diego hit a 3-pointer with less than a second to play to force overtime.
The Beavers were able to lock down the game in the extra period to claim the victory.
Oregon State honored seniors Jorge Diaz Graham and Malcolm Christie in a pregame ceremony.
The Beavers will close out the regular on Saturday when they visit Santa Clara.
