Dax Whitney struck out 11 and Jacob Krieg and Adam Haight drove in runs in the fourth inning to send 19th-ranked Oregon State to a 2-1 win over Houston Friday at Riders Field. Krieg tied the game on an infield single in the fourth, and scored the game-winner later in the inning when Haight singled to left. Whitney's 11 strikeouts paced the Oregon State staff, which tallied 14 among the righty and three relievers.

• The Beavers competed against two Southeastern Conference programs last season, dropping close matchups to Oklahoma in Round Rock and Auburn in Arlington.
• Ethan Kleinschmit, Saturday's probable starter, has 50 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings in neutral-site games in his career. His WHIP in neutral-site matchups is 1.12.
