SAN CARLOS, Calif. – The Oregon State men's rowing team got its season off to a successful start over the weekend, claiming victory in two of its three Varsity 8 races. The Beavers defeated both San Diego and UC San Diego, but came up short against California.

The Beavers took down San Diego Saturday afternoon, claiming the Varsity 8 race with a time of 5:49.9. The 2V8 followed that up by also beating the Toreros at a mark of 6:00.4.

Sunday's action saw the Beaver Varsity 8 clock a time of 6:01.1 – finishing four seconds ahead of the UC San Diego boat. The OSU 2V8 also bested its Triton counterpart, stopping the clock in 6:11.2.

Oregon State opened its Saturday by facing California. The Beaver Varsity 8 finished behind the Golden Bears, clocking a time of 5:59.7. The OSU 2V8 and 3V8 also failed to match Cal, finishing in 6:14.0 and 6:22.8, respectively. The Beavers 3V8 wrapped up action both Saturday and Sunday by finishing behind the Cal 4V8.

The Beavers will be off for three weeks, before hosting the Santa Clara on March 28 at Dexter Lake.
