Dax Whitney Named To Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List
April 02, 2026 | Baseball
CARY, N.C. – Oregon State sophomore Dax Whitney is on the midseason watch list for the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced on Thursday. He is one of 45 players on the midseason list.
Whitney has started seven games this season, amassing a 4-0 record and 1.55 earned run average in 40 2/3 innings. He leads the nation with 78 strikeouts, recording 11 or more in five of his seven starts.
That includes a 17-strikeout performance against Baylor on Feb. 20, which tied the Oregon State single-game record. It's also the most in a single-game nationally this season.
Semifinalists for the honor will be announced May 14. Three finalists will be revealed on June 10 and the winner will be announced June 29 at 4:30 p.m. PT on MLB Network.
Whitney gives the Beavers at least one midseason watch list selection in four of the last five years. He follows Aiva Arquette (2025), Travis Bazzana (2024), Cooper Hjerpe (2022) and Jacob Melton (2022).
Thirteen Beavers, meanwhile, have been named semifinalists for the honor, most recently Arquette last season. Michael Conforto (2014), Adley Rutschman (2019), Hjerpe (2022) and Bazzana (2024) have gone on to become finalists. Rutschman became the Beavers' first Golden Spikes Award winner in 2019.
