AJ Newberry Named To Doak Walker Preseason Watch List

DALLAS – Oregon State senior running back AJ Newberry has been named to the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list, it was announced Tuesday by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.

Newberry, who hails from Grand Prairie, Texas, is in his first season with the Beavers. He came to Corvallis from Vanderbilt, where he played 26 games over three seasons with the Commodores.

Newberry totaled 338 rushing yards over those three seasons, scoring six touchdowns while catching nine passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. He posted a career-best 185 yards on 41 carries with three touchdowns in 202.24

The Athletic Forum will name 10 semifinalists in November, with the three finalists selected by the end of the month. The recipient of the honor will be named Dec. 10 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
