Gentry Scores Twice in Home Win

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Lea Gentry scored a pair of goals as Oregon State won its home opener against Bushnell, besting the Beacons 5-0 at Paul Lorenz Field.
The Denver, Colo., native scored in the 24th and 55th minutes, tapping in her first collegiate goal after a cross was mishandled in the box by Bushnell's goalkeeper, later getting on the end of a Morgan Long cross to make the Beaver lead 4-0.
Gentry, who was named to the Pac-12 Preseason Impact List, was also credited with an assist in the 18th minute and tied for the team lead with three shots on goal.
Mary Hoffman was the beneficiary of Gentry's helper, scoring her first career goal less than 30 seconds after London Tsuma's left footed finish marked the Beavers' first goal just 17 minutes in. Hoffman led the team in shots (five) while also totaling three shots on goal across 61 minutes played, while Tsuma later added an assist on Vida Blue Rosse's headed effort on a corner kick.
Maia Lazaro also earned an assist on Hoffman's goal, playing 53 minutes in her third start of the season, while Emily Brandt assisted on Tsuma's opener.
With 31 total shots – 15 on target – five different Beaver student-athletes put at least two shots on frame: Gentry and Hoffman (three), Tsuma (two), Abby Smith (two) and Grace Wetzel (two). The offensive output culminated in a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks and forced 10 saves from the Bushnell 'keeper.
In goal, Alexi Morgan and Libby Brooker combined for the Beavers' first shutout of the season, Morgan playing the first 45 minutes and Brooker the second; Brooker was one of four Beavers to make their Oregon State debuts, joining Rosse, Isabela Marquart and Leanne Oropeza.
The Beavers return to action Sunday in Ogden, Utah, facing the Weber State Wildcats. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
