Hartwell Wins CDA National Reserve Invitational In Collegiate Debut

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – Freshman Davis Hartwell won the CDA National Reserve Invitational in his first collegiate start, capturing medalist honors as Oregon State closed out its season-opening tournament Tuesday at Coeur d'Alene National Golf Course.
Hartwell shot 70-66-72 for a 6-under 208, winning by one stroke over St. Mary's Samuel Baumuller and San Francisco's William Svanstrom, who tied for second at 209.
He opened the tournament with a 70, followed with a 66 in the second round to seize the lead, then closed with a 2-over 72 on Tuesday to hold off the field over the final 18 holes in a 16-team NCAA Division I field that also included Boise State, Pacific and host Eastern Washington.
Svanstrom carded a final-round 68, and Baumuller followed his second-round 64 with a 74 on Tuesday, as both finished a stroke behind Hartwell for the runner-up spot.
The win came in Hartwell's very first competitive round as a Beaver. It also capped a milestone week for Oregon State, which saw a second true freshman, Miles Romagnoli, make his college debut at the same event.
As a team, Oregon State finished 10th among the 16 programs at the par-72 course, posting rounds of 288, 292 and 302 for an 882 total, 18 shots over par. St. Mary's (Calif.) won the team title at 857.
Stanley Lin turned in the next-best score for the Beavers, carding 71-77-69—217 to tie for 13th, closing his tournament with a 3-under 69 in the final round – the low round of the week for Oregon State outside of Hartwell's 66. Romagnoli shot 71-76-81—228 to tie for 67th in his college debut, while Ethan Elleraas (76-73-82—231) tied for 78th and Owen Bascom (77-79-80—236) tied for 90th to round out the Oregon State lineup.
The Beavers next compete Oct. 5 and 6 when hosting the Oregon State Invitational at Trysting Tree.
