Women's Rowing At Pac-12 Championships On Sunday

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Competing for the first time in two weeks, the Oregon State women's rowing team will take to the waters of Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. for the Pac-12 Rowing Championships on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 13.
With no heats, the Beavers' varsity eight (11:50 a.m.), second varsity eight (11:10 a.m.), novice eight (9:50 a.m.) and varsity four (10:30 a.m.) will all compete in the Grand Finals.

"The team has been working hard all year for this moment," Oregon State head coach Emily Ford said. "It has been a great group to work with and I especially want to highlight the great leadership efforts of our six seniors: Bonnie Chilibeck, Andrea Harvey, Lauren Morgenthaler, Jenna Schardt, Melissa Sloan and Leslie Urban."
In the feature V8 race at 11:50 a.m., OSU's Bonnie Chilibeck (coxswain), Anna Taylor, Gillian Cooper, Leslie Urban, Amy McKee, Agne Pack, Karly Laney, Melissa Sloan and Tina Vernazza will be in lane seven next to Washington State. On April 28 against WSU at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River, the group narrowly finished behind the Cougars in a time of 6:53.72.
Oregon State's 2V8 will also be in lane seven at 11:10 a.m. The Beavers' N8 will race from lane three and their V4 from lane six earlier in the morning.
"The competition will be great this weekend," Ford said. "The Pac-12 is as strong as ever and with one seven-boat race for each crew it's going to be intense."
OSU, which received votes in the latest USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Coaches Poll, is one of seven Pac-12 teams mentioned in the national rankings heading into the conference championships. Every Pac-12 crew is recognized with California (No. 1), USC (No. 3), UCLA (No. 7), Washington (No. 8), Stanford (No. 12) and Washington State (No. 17) rounding out the field.
WSU is the only other Pac-12 school which the Beavers' varsity eight has faced in head-to-head action this season. Oregon State's 2V8 raced Stanford and USC in addition to the Cougars at the San Diego Crew Classic in March.
In 2011, Oregon State finished seventh at the Pac-10 Championships with 10 team points. The Beavers' V8 (7:58.8) and 2V8 (6:47.5) finished seventh, while their V4 (7:30.7) finished sixth and N8 (6:58.7) came in second.
The Beavers' best finish at the conference championships is second, which they placed in 1980. OSU came in third in 2009, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997 and 1979.
