A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Alex Suprise joins Oregon State Men’s Soccer after spending five seasons as an Assistant Coach at St. Bonaventure University in New York. Suprise oversaw the program’s recruitment during his tenure at St. Bonaventure.
During the 2024 campaign, Suprise guided St. Bonaventure to its highest RPI since 2017, with five players receiving CSC All-District honors. He also mentored Callum Shillington, who was listed in the MLS Draft—the first St. Bonaventure men’s soccer player to achieve this since 2018. In addition, Umechi Akuazaoku signed a professional contract with Sakaryaspor in the Turkish second division.
Throughout the 2023 campaign, under Suprise’s guidance, St. Bonaventure reached new heights, recording its best winning percentage since 2017. The program also achieved a record for fewest goals conceded since 2008 and scored the most goals since 2013. Five players earned CSC All-District honors, and Andres Javitt was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team.
In the 2022 season, Suprise coached Peter Massaquoi, who signed a professional contract with FC Floresti in Moldova’s first division. Additionally, Matthew Wrobel received United Soccer Coaches Southeast All-Region Third Team.
Suprise began his tenure at St. Bonaventure during the modified spring 2021 pandemic campaign, overseeing the program’s recruiting efforts. That year, he mentored Shae Currey, who earned CoSIDA First Team All-Region honors, and Matthew Wrobel, who was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team. He also led goalkeeper instruction throughout the campaign, during which Trevor Wilson signed a professional contract with Flower City Union in NISA.
Prior to St. Bonaventure, Suprise spent the 2020 pandemic campaign at Medaille College and the 2018 and 2019 campaigns as the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts. During his two seasons in New England, the program recorded two winning campaigns and consecutive trips to the conference tournament. The team also registered one First-team All-Conference, and three Second Team CCC selections from 2018-2019.
Additionally, Alex earned a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) from Nichols College in 2020.
His club soccer experience began with his hometown soccer club, where he started coaching while still in high school. Suprise coached at the ECNL club, Western New York Flash Soccer Academy in Buffalo, N.Y, working within the boys’ program. While in New England, he coached with Global Premier Soccer and FC USA, and he also coached at Virginia Rush Soccer Club while competing in college.
Suprise graduated from Virginia Wesleyan University in 2018 with dual degrees in Business and Recreation & Leisure Studies. During his four years at Virginia Wesleyan, he appeared in 54 games as a defender, recording one goal and 10 assists.
He currently holds coaching education certifications from United Soccer Coaches (USC) and the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
