SEATTLE, Wash. - Oregon State allowed three unanswered goals in the second half and the Beavers ended their men's soccer season with a 4-2 loss at Washington on Sunday afternoon in MPSF Mountain Division play. The Beavers (5-12-0 overall, 1-6-0 MPSF Mountain) picked up a goal and an assist from Scott Tedder.
"The effort was there, but the concentration level wasn't high enough," said OSU head coach Dana Taylor, who wrapped up his first season at the school. "Tactically, we made some bad decisions with the ball, technically, we didn't keep the ball on the ground and do some things that were in our game plan."
Washington (12-4-2, 7-0-0) scored in the first minute of the game but Oregon State tied things when Justin Kirk rebounded Tedder's miss for a goal in the 27th minute. It was still 1-1 at halftime, but the Huskies knocked in three goals from the 63rd through 83rd minutes, including two by Rees Bettinger.
OSU picked up its final tally in the 89th minute, taking a pass from Greg Howes and rolling it past UW goalkeeper Chad Olsen. The assist was the 15th of Howes' career, leaving him one short of a share of the school record. Howes finished the season with six assists, good for a tie for fourth place on the OSU single-season leaders list, Howes had set the school single-season mark with nine assists in 1998.
Beaver goalkeeper Bryan Hill had six saves, giving him 95 for the season and a new single-season school record.
